The "Power-to-X" whitepaper by Ørstedin (2020) states that achieving cost-competitiveness for renewable hydrogen production hinges on five factors: • Capital expenditure • Efficiency of the electrolyser • Renewable power costs • Utilisation rates of the assets • Regulation ensuring a 'level playing field'
In Europe a strong commitment for decarbonisation of economies has established a supportive environment for renewable hydrogen and power-to-X. In 2030 the cost of hydrogen production could be down to 2 €/kg H2. See assumptions in the paper.
